Los Angeles-based architect Michael Jantzen presents the ‘Smart Church Pavilion’, a public art proposal. Meant for installation in any public space, the painted wooden structure is symbolic of the archetypal church. The ‘smart’ title comes from the pavilion’s primary feature; proximity-awareness sensors, which are able to open and close the entire unit when visitors enter within a designated perimeter.
Intended for use in special gatherings or days at the park, ‘smart church pavilion’ — despite its religious undertone — is not meant to be exclusionary. Rather, Jantzen hopes the generic church form will instill a sense of awe and calmness in the minds of visitors.
