The Flower House was designed as a second residence for an art collector. Located in the mountains, the client’s request was to create a space where he could disconnect from his busy lifestyle in the city.
As a direct response, the design strategy was to imbed the house in the ground and make it disappear thus erasing the building mass from the landscape. The latter is left without intervention, blending the site with the surrounding pine forest and leaving the land to be appropriated by the client (Jogging, Picnic, Napping, Horse riding, etc…)
The underground spaces revolve around an internal gravel courtyard that allows natural elements such as light, rain and wind to enter the house while a floating “roof” of flowers at 2.8m creates an inverted landscape.
