The exterior of the house is made of special concrete casted on used yacht sails so that the experience of stormy seas is carved in stone (almost literally) for the decades to come. Concrete is turned into composite panels with wood and vacuum isolation panels in between. As a result, we have 178 mm thick walls with U value of 0,1 W/m2K (requirement for passive houses in Nordic climate) that has friendly soft wood (CLT panels) inside and durable concrete outside.
Thanks to the smart ventilation system that reacts to CO2 and moisture levels and is equipped with enthalpy heat exchanger that returns both heat and humidity, air in our house is clean, healthy and
kept at the optimal level of humidity. The finishing materials used are nontoxic. Our house gets enough light from the large front windows. The complementing interior lights allow the amount and tone to be adjusted to suit our natural senses and pace of life – with colder tones that keep us alert while the warmer tones in the evening improving sleep quality. 60 mm concrete walls, thick (4 layers of glass) windows and sturdy door keep the exterior noise in control. The interior systems are constructed and positioned so that these create a minimal noise disturbance.
Our house can become whatever you want: a city centre home, a lakeside summer house, a cosy cafe, an office, or even a classroom. Its clever design provides the inspiration to make best use of every square inch of space and envisage how the builtin components, even the walls, can be adjusted to meet their purpose most effectively.
Living in our house is neither a drain on the environment nor your bank account. Wellinsulated walls (U value 0,1 W/m2K) and large 4layered glazing (U value 0,3 W/m2K), home automation that selects optimal heating or cooling sources and architecture that makes maximum use of sun mean that little or no energy is wasted. With solar panels on the roof, the house returns more power to the grid than it uses for a year.
Materials are used sustainably. For example, the construction of one unit requires just 9 m of concrete and, at the end of its life, components can be disassembled and reused easily.
Components of our house are manufactured in a controlled and optimised factory environment. As a result, erection on a chosen site takes no more than seven hours, sparing the neighbours the noise, dust and other inconvenience of construction work.
Thanks to its solid structure our house can be assembled on gravel, asphalt, etc without digging up the ground and laying foundations. All it needs is a level footing and connection points for water, electricity and sewerage.
